TO ALL LEAST TERN VOLUNTEERS ATTENDING FIELD TRAINING on Saturday, April 29: 8:30 - 10:30 AM. Field Training is mandatory for all volunteers.
If you did not attend last Wednesday's kick-off/training meeting, you may still volunteer by completing the Field Training and all appropriate paperwork required by State Parks (if you have not received it yet, you can find it on the 2017 Nesting Season page).
Please plan to arrive before 8:30 am to the training site. Upon entering at the Magnolia entrance, tell the gate attendant that you are there for the Least Tern training and they will let you in.
It takes 10 min to safely drive from the Magnolia entrance at PCH (you must enter at Magnolia) through the parking lots to the very last parking lot to the south where the Least Tern Natural Preserve is located. This is where you will meet your group for your field training session with Lana Nguyen, State Parks Environmental Scientist and Lead for the Least Tern Monitoring Program. This lot is also where the surfers park, so it may be full and we have a large training class, so you might have to park in the lot to the north and walk to the Preserve.
BRING BINOCULARS! THE TERNS ARE THERE! YOU WILL BE WATCHING THEIR BEHAVIORS! Bring a copy of the data sheet if you want to practice! YOU WILL BE WALKING IN SOFT SAN , SO WEAR APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR.
Thank you for your interest in our local Endangered Least Terns!
