Summer Nature Day Camps 2010
 
at the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary in Irvine
   
 
Sea and Sage Audubon day camps provide children with hands-on nature experiences through fun outdoor activities in the beautiful setting of freshwater ponds and trails at the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary in Irvine.

Fledgling Camp (Full)
7 - 8 year olds
June 28 - July 2 - Full
Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Fee: $165/$180 per camper
(The lower price is for current Audubon members)

 
Youngsters will learn how to observe birds on daily nature walks, keep a birding journal, and have fun playing games, learning songs and doing crafts.
Typical day's program activities:  
 Morning bird walk & journal entries
 Sharing favorite birds seen during the walk  
 Snack  
 Song  
 Lunch  
 Art project such as working on a book, that is later published, of everyone's favorite birds
 Game, for example, the Bird Race  
 Story  
 Ending songs, sharing, prizes  
   
 
Marsh Bird Camp
9 - 12 year olds
Session 1: June 28 - July 2
Session 2: July 5 - 9

Monday - Friday
9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Fee: $185/$200 per camper

  Campers will explore all aspects of marsh bird life such as feathers, nests and feeding. They will also enjoy daily nature walks, see live hawks & owls from a rehabilitator, make a birdbath, keep a nature journal, do crafts, and much, much more.
  Typical day's program activities:
   Speaker from the Orange County Bird of Prey Center with live owls and hawks
   Campers dissect owl pellets
   Play hula hoop migration game
   Get to touch owl and hawk wings and talons
   Story
   Bird Trivia game
   
 
Birds, Bugs and Blossoms (New)
Prior Marsh Camp Experience Required
11 years and older
July 12 - 16
Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Fee: $185/$200 per camper

This camp will cover the birds, bugs, and native plants of our neighborhood. Included will be a daily nature walk, an off-site field trip, major craft activity, learning bird sounds, and a last day scavenger hunt.
 
Advanced Bird Camp (Full)
Prior Marsh Camp Experience Required
11 years and older
Week 1: July 19 - 23 - full
Week 2: July 26 - 31

Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Week 2 will not be the same as week 1.
Week 2 has a Friday night sleep over.*

Fee: $185/$200 per camper for week 1.
Fee: $200/$220 per camper for week 2.

  Campers will have the excitement of exploring advanced bird topics and avian relationships with various habitats. These unique activities will include daily nature walks, an off site field trip, sketching, painting a hand-carved wooden decoy, identifying mystery birds, taking part in a birdathon, and much more.

The highlight of the 2nd week will be a sleep over which includes a delicious dinner, night activities, and a wonderful pancake breakfast in the morning.
