Two Days of Exceptional Winter Birding
The Salton Sea and surrounding Imperial Valley offer some of the best winter birding in California. Join Vic Leipzig and Samuel Bressler for an exciting, fast-paced weekend exploring this remarkable region and continuing into Anza-Borrego State Park.
We’ll begin Saturday morning at the headquarters of the Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge and bird until sunset. Participants will typically spend Saturday night in Brawley.
On Sunday morning, we’ll meet in Brawley and head west, visiting birding locations near the Salton Sea before continuing to Anza-Borrego State Park, where the field trip will conclude around noon. Many participants then return to Orange County via Highway 78.
Please note: The exact route and timing will depend on birding conditions at the time of the trip.
This field trip involves extensive driving and frequent stops at different birding locations on both days. It is intended for experienced birders who are prepared for a challenging, active, and fast-paced weekend.
